On 26th February at The Maltings, two Best groups will present an exciting and contrasting double bill…
Best School of Acting’s Adavanced group will present a collection of moments from the writings of George Bernard Shaw – ‘To Be Shaw’.
Best’s youth theatre group, TheBYTE, will present ‘Dr Hugh & The Creatives’. Imagine a world where creativity is banned! How did it happen? What is it like? What has happened to society? Could this ever be possible? And can our time travelling Doctor save the day? Award-winning youth theatre group TheBYTE explores this strange world in which imagination has been stifled and the future of true civilisation hangs in the balance…
A catastrophic flood. The Thames barrier has burst and London is submerged. One year on and rumours abound that there’s electricity, even WIFI, on the other side of the vast, murky river. Time to venture off and find a better life somewhere over there. But the river has its secrets…
Best Theatre Arts’ youth group, TheBYTE, proudly presents These Bridges, This challenging, exciting and innovative theatre experience inspires us to consider what we desire, how we challenge our fears and how we may just survive it all. It’s a brand new play written by Phoebe Eclair-Powell for the National Theatre Connections 2018 programme – a nationwide celebration of new plays for young people.
Best’s youth theatre group TheBYTE, are once more taking part in the National Theatre Connections programme, a national competition that saw us invited to perform on the Dorfman stage at the NT in 2015!
This time it’s a disturbing play about a post-deluge London, littered with bodies, and two teenagers’ journey to find out what lies on the opposite bank of the now swollen Thames. It’s an astonishing play and will feature a huge amount of precision physical theatre by the ensemble.
Tickets are on sale shortly here for the performances at The Maltings Arts Theatre 26-28 March.
Best’s youth theatre group TheBYTE were triumphant with our production of Ali Smith’s ‘Just’ at the Welwyn Youth Drama Festival, winning Best Play and the Adjudcator’s Award in recognition of the outstanding chorus work.
Congratulations to the cast and to director Dawn Hudson on anther amazing success for Best!
Fresh from our success at the Welwyn Youth Drama Festival, our youth theatre group, TheBYTE, has a brilliant opportunity to perform at the Roman Amphitheatre of Verulamium!
In association with our friends at Ovo we’ll be presenting a wonderful piece of Greek comedy – Aristophanes’ ‘The Birds’ on 17 & 18 July at 7.30pm.
Yes it’s here! The Best Theatre Arts app! Please could all Best parents download this and enable notifications as it will help us enormously when we need to get urgent messages out (like this week’s venue changes).
Our summer academies were a huge success – Transylvania Express, The Lost Disco of Atlantis and OzWars were very well attended, enjoyed good weather and were brilliant fun. The shows were all stunning!
This year we tried out a couple of new things too. In our last show – OzWars, we performed a stunning UV sequence using rockets and planets made by the students!
Now it’s time to focus on the Autumn term – we’ll be looking at pantomime techniques in Best, and in First Class it’s ‘The Hums of Pooh!’. Places are very limited and if you are interested in joining, you should book as son as possible.
Sorry, there's been a problem downloading current course dates. Please reload the page and we'll try again.
We are holding open audition workshop for our forthcoming productions and courses on 8 August 2016 so if you are interested we have another cunning plan so call us as soon as possible. Scholarships and bursaries may be available for those showing real potential.
The school is currently full, but with some students graduating this July we will have a small number of places available for new students to start in September and we are holding an audition workshop for interested students from 2pm to 5pm on Monday 8th August 2016 at The Malting Arts Centre.
The workshop is as much for you as it is for us! You’ll get to see the kinds of things we do in class and meet the staff. We are just looking for a positive attitude and commitment – it is an ‘inclusive’ rather than an ‘exclusive’ process. And we guarantee you will enjoy it.
We do have scholarships available for those in whom we see real development potential – not necessarily in pure acting talent terms, but in the scope there might be for real progression given the right coaching. These would be awarded following the workshop and may be worth up to 100% of the class fees.
Book online here.or by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01727 759634.
Our half term bring-a-friend event was loud, fun and raised a wonderful £214.50 for The Children’s Society! Well done everyone!
