Best Youth Theatre

Best Youth Theatre (aka TheBYTE) is creative, re-inventive, challenging, inspiring and progressive – a well-established, dynamic young people’s theatre company in St Albans.

Based at Sandringham School, over the past few years, under the leadership of Lisa Schulberg and Dawn Hudson, the group has gone from strength to strength. Our aim is to produce a stream of challenging, stretching and compelling theatrical events for local theatres and national festivals.

The group is split into two age groups – Byte1 for school years 7 to 10 and Byte2 for school years 11 upwards. Both groups perform stretching shows to the public.

In 2015 TheBYTE’s moving and disturbing production of The Boy Preference was selected from over 300 groups across the UK to perform at the National Theatre.

In 2017 our production of Just won three awards at the Welwyn Drama Festivals and our younger group began a new tradition with an open-air summer production at the Roman Theatre of Verulamium – The Birds which we followed in 2018 with Around the World in 80 Days

In 2018 our stunning production of These Bridges showed everyone what could be accomplished with commitment and teamwork and our second open-air show at the Roman Theatre, Are We Connected? was a huge success. And GONE in 2020 took us to new heights of drama and stagework.

And then most recently our hilarious and complex musical Olympiaganza rocked the Roman Theatre of Verulamium stage in front of sold out audiences.

We have two groups – the first for school years 8,9 and 10 (meeting 5pm-7pm), and the second for school years 11,12 and 13 (meeting 7pm-9pm).
